Free Nicotine Replacement Therapy Available
The Pennsylvania Department of Health is now offering free nicotine patches to individuals who want to become tobacco free in 2010 and for life. By calling the state’s free quitline (1-800-QUIT NOW or 1-800-784-8669), you will receive phone counseling services from a Quit Coach, and a four-week supply of patches. Why is Pennsylvania offering free Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) to tobacco users?
- We know the vast majority of tobacco users want to quit.
- We know providing NRT and a PA Free Quitline quit coach doubles your chances of becoming tobacco free.
- We consider any investment in helping you to be successful a good investment.
Who is eligible for the free NRT?
- Any state resident, 18 years of age or older.
What do I need to do to receive free NRT?
- Call the PA Free Quitline and complete the registration process.
- Agree to enroll in the free coaching support with the quitline.
- Complete the first coaching session (Eighty percent of people who enroll actually complete their first coaching session immediately following registration).
- Have no medical condition preventing the use of nicotine patches.
When will I receive my FREE starter kit?
- A four-week supply of nicotine patches will be shipped to you immediately after completion of your first coaching session.
- The dosage of the nicotine patches you receive will be based on your current level of tobacco use.
Will a four-week supply of patches be enough to help me become tobacco free?
- The usual recommended course of nicotine replacement therapy is eight to 12 weeks. We have found that many individuals need less time, others may require a little more.
- If you need more assistance, a quit coach can refer you to a program in your local area following completion of your Quitline coaching sessions.
Remember, the Free PA Quitline (1-800-QUIT NOW) is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. NRT starter kit supplies are limited, so call as soon as you determine NRT is the right choice.
